Is ketamine therapy right for me?
Explore answers to commonly asked questions about ketamine therapy at Coastline Wellness, designed to provide insight into our approach, protocols, and commitment to transforming mental health.
Ketamine is a medication known for its effects on brain chemistry. It works by altering the activity of certain chemicals in the brain, particularly glutamate, which is important for communication between brain cells. By increasing the levels of glutamate between these cells and stimulating specific receptors called AMPA receptors, ketamine promotes the formation of new connections among neurons. This process, known as synaptogenesis, is crucial for improving various aspects of brain function, including mood, cognition, and thought processes.
Moreover, ketamine has been found to have neuroprotective properties, meaning it can help repair damage to the brain caused by long-term exposure to stress hormones. This damage repair can be particularly beneficial for individuals struggling with conditions such as depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, as these conditions are often associated with changes in brain structure and function.
At Coastline Wellness, the Ketamine Treatment protocol typically involves medically guided infusions over 2-4 weeks with care support options, including Tune-up Treatment or Full Spectrum Package. Each treatment includes intravenously administered ketamine over 60 minutes by a licensed provider, with additional medical staff supervision.
For the first four weeks of treatment with Esketamine or Spravato nasal spray, patients typically require two visits per week. In the second month of therapy, visits are scheduled once per week. Afterwards, the frequency of visits is determined based upon individual patient needs and patient response to the treatment.
Ketamine IV infusions are typically not covered by medical insurance, though some insurances may cover Esketamine nasal spray (Spravato) under specific circumstances. Coastline Wellness accepts various payment options, including credit cards, FSA, HSA, and Care Credit. Initial assessments and consultations are priced at $210, with treatment costs ranging from $250 to $535 per session. We also offer financing options for your convenience. If you wish to explore insurance coverage, we now accept Federal Medicare, BCBS, Humana Medicare and United Healthcare. We can also provide you with a superbill for reimbursement purposes.
The Full Spectrum Treatment (FST) Package consists of 6 ketamine treatment sessions (2 per week, for three weeks), along with one advanced provider follow-up at the end of the treatment package. For patients taking mental health medications, the provider manages medications from the start of treatment until 60 days post-treatment. Continued medication management after 60 days may incur regular telemedicine fees as necessary. We also recommend therapy sessions (counseling) and have established partnerships with select therapy groups to facilitate access to essential Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) between treatment sessions.
